There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is not legal. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent area, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship casino, highlights 150 slot machines and 60 tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that features a number of luxuries accompanying the gambling hall, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight table games.
